Andrew Russeth discusses Philip Guston\u2019s upcoming retrospective, Philip Guston Now<\/em>, and the exhibition, Resilience: Philip Guston in 1971,<\/em> in his article for ARTNEWS<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Philip Guston Now<\/em> will display the evolution of Guston’s work. \u201cYou get to see big patterns emerging\u2014toward color and away from color, prettier paintings and more difficult moments. It\u2019s really epic\u2014the swings, the scope,\u201d says Harry Cooper, the NGA\u2019s modern art chief curator and one of the co-curators on the show.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Guston\u2019s daughter Musa Mayer says, \u201cThere\u2019s a whole generation of art lovers and artists who haven\u2019t had the chance to see the work in any depth,\u201d but will now have the opportunity as approximately 125 paintings and 70 drawings will be shown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Russeth mentions that this year\u2019s Los Angeles exhibition Resilience: Philip Guston in 1971 <\/em>\u201cshould serve as a strong aperitif for the retrospective.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
